Ocean City, Md.- The 2010 Play It Safe Project comes to an end as Graduates leave us full of good memories and good luck. The Ocean City Drug Alcohol Abuse Prevention Committee would like to thank all of its sponsors and donors to the Play It Safe project. With a special thanks to all of our Volunteers who give countless hours to make it a safe celebration for our grads! This year's project was especially sentimental to us since the Town is expected to take away the Free Bus Pass next year. To our participants the 2010 graduates we ask if you like participating in this program and want to see it continue, there are several ways you can help us now! First & foremost, we urge all of are past participants especially the 2010 seniors to e-mail us and the Town Of Ocean City Mayor & Council with your comments concerning how important the Free Bus is to our program. Be honest and let them know of your own experiences of participants who you witnessed or known of who you would not want to see get behind the wheel of a vehicle while they were here! Second, please if you can donate to the Play It Safe Project to help continue to make it happen for next years graduates by clicking here. Recap June 25th 2010

Friday June 25th

A beautiful warm less humid day greeted the a few 2010 graduates who competed in the Tennis Tournament at the Ocean City Tennis Center on 61st. street. The eventual finals match pitted two friends who had played earlier in the week to a very different outcome. With the Championship on the line Amy made it look easy over her friend Kyle. In a week that featured the longest Wimbledon Match in History this was as Amy put it...Lopsided!

rockclimbing2010wk3There were many experienced climbers climbing the rock, but a few seniors had never climbed due to their fear of heights. With encouragement from on-lookers and volunteers even these 2010 graduates made it all the way to the top of the Rock and realized to never say Can't!!!!!

Recap June 23rd 2010

Wednesday June 23rd

A blistering hot & humid day kept many 2010 Graduates out of the competition at Maui Golf Miniature Golf Tournament 57th street. They sure missed a record setting winning score of 30 for the 1st place winner Ashton of North Carroll H.S. ! Of course Ashton said it was hard to call this a great win since there was little or no real competition. Now normally that sounds like over-confidence , but he is right there really was little or no competition.

These 2010 graduates from Pa. gave a thumbs up to the HOT weather and the FREE Round at BBuccaneer's Booty Golf & Game World on 146th street . The owner of the course insisted that our volunteers sit in the Air Conditioned state of the Art Game World Arcade for registration out of the heat!

Recap June 22nd 2010

Tuesday June 22nd

The 2010 graduates got a hot clear sunny day and high humidity and Day Of Firsts. Numerous graduates signed in for the Free Wristbands to ride the bus but few wanted to compete? The Play It Safe OC Idol Karaoke Contest and the Beach Volleyball Tournament had one of the smallest turnouts in recent memory. Yes, it was safe to say Today was a day of Firsts for Play It Safe organizers as well!

karaoke2010wk3sdhs The Play It safe OC Idol contest had no winner for the first time since it's inception 9 years ago. The judges said the final decision not to name a winner was due to rules that there must be at least 6 competitors!

Meanwhile Less than a half dozen teams competed for the Beach Volleyball Championship in round robin play. The week three Beach Volleyball Tournament Championship went to a Team from Highlands. H.S. Pa. which defeated a local team from Stephen Decatur H.S. Md. in the finals!  The Highlands H.S. team had a large group of "Cheer Leaders" on hand rooting them to the win with great spirit! (Another First!)

Finally the strange day of firsts ended at Happy Jack Pancake House 26th street for the "Pancake Eating Contest". This competition was as strange as the whole day as for the first time more girls entered instead of boys. This has never happened in the past years! Usually there is not enough girls who want to compete!  It was still fun to watch as 16 girls and  12 boys throw down some hotcakes! Lacey of Williams Valley H.S. Pa. and John of Stephen Decatur H.S. Md. won for eating  them fastest! John said he was headed over to McDonalds for a supersized Big Mac!
