Interesting Facts About The Play It Safe Project

Play It Safe 2009 offered free, fun and alcohol-and-drug-free events in, June 2009.:

 *12,139 *6 events canceled due to rain.
In 2008 13,185 participants a current attendance record

 21 States represented + D.C. & several foreign countries

 75,000 Passports to Fun were printed and distributed in Ocean City, across the State of Maryland and beyond

  FREE planned events, including karaoke, indoor miniature golf, windsurfing, kayaking, midnight bowling, basketball, outdoor miniature golf, volleyball, Splash Mountain Water Park, tennis, laser tag, rock climbing and pancake & Pizza eating contest, Paintball, access to Health & Racquet Club. All events were held, 6 closures due to bad weather!

 300+ businesses, organizations and individuals contributed money and prizes

 Play It Safe student committee, a sub committee of SADD, at Stephen Decatur High School, had 20+ members last school year (2007-2008)

 82 Volunteers giving more than 844 hours of service were key to the implementation of Play It Safe 2008

  • *2008 Largest Participation in Play It Safe Ocean City History.(13,185 Participants)

  • **2007 2nd Largest Participation in 2008 Play It Safe Ocean City History.(13,148 Participants)

  • Previously 2005 (12,492) was largest although 2006 had several rained out events!

  • Over 75,000 Passport to fun booklets passed out mostly to Maryland Schools.    (Maryland is the only state funding project as of July 2007)

  • Most Grads in 2009 came from Maryland.

  • 97 volunteers helped stage the events.

  • 16 States and the District of Columbia represented.

  • Several foreign countries represented.

  • Many FREE planned events, including karaoke, indoor miniature golf, windsurfing, kayaking, midnight bowling, basketball, outdoor miniature golf, volleyball, Splash Mountain water parklide, laser tag, rock climbing and Pancake & Pizza eating contest, Paintball, weekly access to Health & Racquet Club.
